Etymology
From Middle French Orange, which later became associated with the colour oranje (“orange”).
The village in Drenthe is first attested as Oranje in 1936. It was named after a nearby potato flour factory, which was named in turn after the nearby Oranjekanaal canal. Compare Oranjedorp.
