Cartography/GIS Pages
In August 2020, I undertook a project to improve or add basic pages on aspects of Cartographic design, with the goal of eventually removing the need for university cartography textbooks. In December 2020, I started working on a few targeted GIS pages for an intermediate GIS course, an effort I have continued to expand.
Pages that I have created:
- Cartographic design: pulled from the general (and too broad) Cartography page
- Visual variable: pulled from Map symbol
- Typography (cartography): There had earlier been a Cartographic labeling page (formerly Labeling (map design) ), but it had been removed because it had no citations for 12 years. I started with that text.
- Proportional symbol map
- Cost distance analysis
- Vector overlay
- Graticule (cartography)
- Spatial join
- Geodatabase (Esri)
Pages that I have overhauled:
- Field (geography)
- Cartographic generalization
- Map symbol
- Page layout (cartography)
- Figure-ground (cartography)
- Terrain cartography
- Thematic map
- Choropleth map
- Dasymetric map
- Bivariate map (renamed to Multivariate map)
- Flow map
- Cartogram
- Chorochromatic map
- Dot distribution map
- Friction of distance
- Geomorphometry
- Buffer (GIS)
- Transport network analysis
- Vector graphics
- Raster graphics
- Sliver polygon
- Data model (GIS)
- Map algebra
- Geographic coordinate system
- Spatial reference system
- Projected coordinate system (formerly Grid reference system)
- Geographic information system, although I would definitely not consider it finished.
- Geographic information system software, expanded from a list into a full article
- Geographical feature
- Proximity analysis
- GIS file format
- Georeferencing
- Georelational data model
Pages that I have edited moderately:
- Cartography
- Visual hierarchy
- Map
- Small multiple
- Geometric primitive
- Geographic information system#Applications
- Geodetic datum
- Earth-centered, Earth-fixed coordinate system
- Spatial database
