Thig leat alt nua a chumadh nó alt reatha a chur in eagar ach an cnaipe "Cuir in eagar" a bhrú. Is féidir leat cleachtadh a dhéanamh ar an gclár dubh freisin.

Is féidir leat rud a scríobh sa Halla Baile má tá rud le rá agat. Cruthaigh cuntas mura ndearna tú cheana é: níl le déanamh agat ach an nasc "logáil isteach" a bhrú ar bharr an leathanaigh agus an fhoirm a líonadh. Is féidir leat rud a bhreacadh ar leathanach plé an tsuímh seo, más maith leat.

Hi all. I wonder if you could correct the title of this new page: Liosta de na daoine na Breataine Bige. wgCategoryCollation

Dia dhaoibh! Níl ach beagán eagarthóireachta déanta agam ar Vicipéid na Gaeilge, ach tá cuid mhór déanta agam ar Vicipéid Ghàidhlig na hAlban. I mí Feabhra na bliana seo chuireamar athrú simplí fóinteach i bhfeidhm ar Vicipéid na Gàidhlig, athrú a mholainn go mór do Vicipéid na Gaeilge ionas go mbeidh na litreacha le síneadh fada i gcónaí in ord ceart aibítre sna catagóirí.

Féach mar atá cúrsaí faoi láthair. I gCatagóir:Fréamh an Eolais mar shampla, ní bhfaighfear Éin chreiche in aice le Einceifilíteas mar a bheadh dúil leis, ach ag deireadh na haibítre i ndiaidh ‘z’. Agus tá bás ag teacht i ndiaidh bun.

Tchífear anseo an rud is cúis leis an trioblóid, faoin cheann “wgCategoryCollation” i gcomhad na socruithe do na Vicipéideanna éagsúla:

https://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/highlight.php?file=InitialiseSettings.php

Tá an t-Seicis (cs), Breatnais (cy), Fraincis (fr), Ungáiris (hu), Polainnis (pl), Portaingéilis (pt), Rúisis (ru), Gàidhlig (gd), agus an-chuid teangacha eile anois ag obair leis an Unicode Collation Algorithm (“uca”), algartam a chuireas litreacha le síneadh fada no diacritic eile san ord cheart. Ach tá Gaeilge na hÉireann ag obair gu fóill leis an algartam default éalangach éagumasach “uppercase”. Ní dhéanann “uppercase” ach ionannas idir na litreacha móra agus na litreacha beaga. Ní thuigeann sé go bhfuil baint idir ‘á’ agus ‘a’, mar shampla, agus cuireann sé go deireadh na haibítre litir ar bith ar a bhfuil síneadh fada. Is leor “uppercase” don Bhéarla, ach ní leor é don Ghaeilge.

Bheadh sé an-shímplidh an Vicipéid a thiontú don algartam “uca”. Ní gá ach: (1) plé agus vótáil a chur ar dóigh anseo; agus, má tá aontú ann, (2) iarratas a chur iseach ag phabricator.wikimedia.org. Tá sé sin déanta againn ar Vicipéid na Gàidhlig agus ni raibh deacracht ar bith againn.

Rudaí beaga eile. Is féidir {{DEFAULTSORT:Ein chreiche}} a úsáid chun “Éin chreiche”, mar shampla, a chur san ord cheart. Ach (1) is minic nach gcuimhnionn daoine ar DEFAULTSORT, agus (2) san lá atá inniu ann ba cheart don ríomhaire a bheith ag déanamh na hoibre sin. Nuair a bhéas wgCategoryCollation ag obair le “uca” in áit “uppercase”, ní bheidh gá tuilleadh ar DEFAULTSORT fá choinne na síntí fada a chur san ord cheart. Bhéadh “uca” socraithe acu do na vicipéideanna gu léir ach amháin gur éirigh deacracht. Ar na vicipéideanna mór mór (chomh mór leis an Fhraincis nó níos mó), glacann an ath-innéacsú an-chuid ama. Níl deacracht ar bith den t-saghas sin le na vicipéideanna beaga. Ar aghaidh linn, mar sin! Tá leaganacha éagsúla de “uca” ann, ina bhfuil miondifríochtaí. Oireann an leagan simplí, “uca-default”, don Ghàidhlig agus don Ghaeilge.

--Caoimhin (talk) 13:41, 3 Iúil 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Go raibh maith agat as an eolas seo, a Chaoimhín. Cuirim a lán ama amú ag ceartú DEFAULTSORT nó á chur isteach. Feicim go mbíonn ainmneacha daoine rangaithe ar an Uicipeid de réir chéad ainm na ndaoine: Tá Ernest Rutherford i gcatagóirí faoi 'E', mar shampla, agus Akira Suzuki faoi 'A'. Faoi 'R' agus 'S' atá siad anseo. Níl fadhb agamsa leis sin ach bheadh sé orainn is dócha éirí as nósanna fuadracha áirithe anseo: Akira Suzuki a scríobh mar Suzuki Akira, an ord sa tSeapáinis (agus mar sin de le hainmneacha in Íoslainnis, Sínis agus (b'fhéidir) Ungáiris. Sampla eile: Kim Il-sung. Ní thuigim cad é an cur chuige le hainmneacha tíortha agus a léithéid. Conas a chuirtear 'an Tuirc' faoi 't'? An bhfuil sibh ag baint úsáide as DEFAULTSORT leo go fóill? SeoMac (talk) 04:35, 4 Iúil 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bheadh DEFAULTSORT úsáideach go fóill, chun ‘an Tuirc’ a chur faoi ‘t’ mar a dúirt tú, agus baineamaid úsáid as go fóill sa Uicipeid. Ach ní bheadh gá le DEFAULTSORT chun ‘Óman’ a chur faoi ‘o’, in áit é a bheith ag deireadh na h-aibítre mar atá faoi láithair i Catagóir:Ballstáit_na_Náisiún_Aontaithe. Sa mhórchuid de na h-altanna ní bheadh DEFAULTSORT de dhíth.

Ceist eile fá leith is ea ceist ord na n-ainmneacha pearsanta. Creidim féin go n-oireann ord na n-ainmeacha baiste i bhfad níos fear do na h-ainmneacha Gaelacha. Seachnaíonn sé na deacrachtaí le na sloinnte leithéid: ar chóir ‘Colm Mac Confhaola’ a bheith faoi ‘Mac’ no faoi ‘Confhaola’? ar chóir ‘Donach de Róiste’ a bheith faoi ‘de’ nó faoi ‘Róiste’? ar chóir ‘Éilís Ní Dhuibhne’ a bheith faoi ‘Ní’ nó faoi ‘Dhuibhne’ nó faoi ‘Duibhne’? ar chóir ‘Dómhnall Ruadh Mac an tSaoir’ (Dòmhnall Ruadh Phàislig) a bheith faoi ‘Ruadh’ nó ‘Mac’ nó ‘Saor’ nó ‘Saoir’? ar chóir ‘Màiri Mhór nan Òran’ (Màiri Nic a’ Phearsain) a bheith faoi ‘Mór’ nó ‘Mhór’ nó ‘Nic’ nó ‘Pearsan’ nó ‘Phearsain’? Ach tá mé sásta glacadh le ord na sloinntí sna catagóirí ina bhfuil na h-ainmneacha Gaelacha ina mionlach. Ní gá an t-ord céanna a bheith i réim i ngach catagóir. Is féidir gan bacadh le DEFAULTSORT agus an t-ordainm a sgríobh i ndiaidh an chatagóir mar seo:

  [[Catagóir:Filí|Mac an tSaor, Dómhnall]]
  [[Catagóir:Filíocht na Gaeilge]]

agus san dóigh sin beidh an t-alt faoi ‘Mac’ sa chatagóir ‘Filí’ agus beidh sé faoi ‘Dómhnall’ sa chatagóir ‘Filíocht na Gaeilge’. Níl an cheist seo fá ord na n-ainmneacha pearsanta réitithe againn sa Uicipeid - tá praiseach againn go fóill. Agus tá sé níos fearr, creidim, gan an cheist beagáinín achrannach seo fá na h-ainmneacha pearsanta a meascú leis an cheist fá wgCategoryCollation, atá iontach simplí creidim. Ceisteanna fá leith is ea iad.

German broadcast video availble to translate into Gaelic and other languages

Hi there, apologies for not posting in Gaelic.

These videos are availble for translation and reuse from German documentaries at ZDF, and are in use on German Wikipedia:

I've made the same suggestion of translation to the Latin, Welsh, Cornish, Scots Gaelic and Breton Wikipedias. If there is interest I will perhaps try to organise getting transcripts in German / English for translation and addition of target language audio. Proof of concept, video of Roman roads with German and English subtitles. From here, Gaelic subtitles could easily be added, and then a second version of the video with Gaelic audio added. Then, the same can be done with any of the other videos, there are around 100.

Ping in case anyone wants to help with this - we have 10 videos redubbed in Welsh and various other languages such as Esperanto, Dutch and Lati; here is the Welsh redub for instance.

Improving the translation support for the Irish Wikipedia

Sorry about not being able to write in Irish. I hope someone can translate this!

Content translation has been successful in supporting the translation process on many Wikipedia communities, and we want to help additional wikis with potential to grow using translation as part of a new initiative.

Content translation facilitates the creation of Wikipedia articles by translating content from other languages. It has been used already to create more than half a million articles. In addition, the tool provides mechanisms to encourage the creation of good quality content, preventing the publication of lightly edited machine translations. In general, our analysis shows that the translations produced are less likely to be deleted than the articles started from scratch.

Irish Wikipedia editors have used Content translation to create more than nine hundred articles. Given the size of the editing community, we think that there is potential to use translation to create more articles, expand existing ones, and attract new editors that learn how to make productive edits. Translation can help the community to reduce the language gap with other languages and grow the number of editors in a sustainable way. In order to achieve this goal, we want to collaborate with you to make Content translation more visible in the Irish Wikipedia and support new ways to translate.

As a first step, during the next weeks we plan to enable Content translation by default on the Irish Wikipedia. That will make it easy for users to discover the tool through several entry points. However, users not interested in translation will still be able to disable it from their preferences.

Please feel free to share any comment in this conversation thread.

Thanks! --Amir E. Aharoni (WMF) (plé) 20:35, 14 Deireadh Fómhair 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Aaharoni! Míle buíochas (thanks)! I've been using the translation tool a bit, and find it very good overall. It is definitely what we need to grow/improve Irish Wikipedia. The only feedback I have for for future development: Sometimes I publish something through the tool, and then someone else changes it by 'Edit' or 'Edit source' (not using the translation tool). Then what? If I continue to edit my translation, I will overwrite changes made through other edits. It would be nice to be able to add new paragraphs from machine translation, while leaving existing paragraphs intact. Thanks for your work! Samalou (plé) 22:39, 14 Deireadh Fómhair 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Samalou! Thanks a lot for the response!
Yes, after the first version of the article is published, it becomes just a usual article, and can be edited using the wiki syntax editor or the Visual editor.
A feature that will allow adding sections to existing articles by translating them from other languages is in active development and will be released in the coming months. See the mw:Content translation/Section translation for more information. --Amir E. Aharoni (WMF) (plé) 21:18, 15 Deireadh Fómhair 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nice, yeah that's all I'm looking for is the ability to add sections by translation without overwriting anything else. Samalou (plé) 22:00, 15 Deireadh Fómhair 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The machine translation engine currently supports Google Translate and Yandex. Could we look into please ading support for the EU's translation engine? It requires permission to access, but I feel certain they'd be willing to help the Wikimedia Foundation if someone asks nicely. It is trained on a gigantic corpus of parallel texts, as all EU texts must be translated into Irish. Info. Request access. Samalou (plé) 00:46, 27 Deireadh Fómhair 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IMPORTANT: Admin activity review

Hello. A policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, interface administrator, etc.) was adopted by global community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on all Wikimedia Foundation wikis with no inactivity policy. To the best of our knowledge, your wiki does not have a formal process for removing "advanced rights" from inactive accounts. This means that the stewards will take care of this according to the admin activity review.

We have determined that the following users meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no logged actions for more than 2 years):

  1. Nmacu (administrator)

These users will receive a notification soon, asking them to start a community discussion if they want to retain some or all of their rights. If the users do not respond, then their advanced rights will be removed by the stewards.

However, if you as a community would like to create your own activity review process superseding the global one, want to make another decision about these inactive rights holders, or already have a policy that we missed, then please notify the stewards on Meta-Wiki so that we know not to proceed with the rights review on your wiki. Thanks,--علاء (plé) 19:31, 25 Eanáir 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Board elections of WMF - without Gaeilge?

(Please excuse me for posting in English, unfortunately I don't know Gaeilge. I would be glad about a translation!)

Dear all, These are the last days of the elections for the Wikimedia Foundation Board, the governing body of the Wikimedia Foundation. In the meantime, the first figures on the election process so far are available, and it also shows which communities have not participated at all so far. One of these is Gaeilge Wikipedia.

In these elections four of the sixteen board seats will be filled, another four will follow in 2022. By voting, the communities have the opportunity to directly influence the work of the Foundation.

Neither the Foundation nor the Board is always without controversy. But whether you think the current course is right and worth supporting or whether you think there should be fundamental changes: your votes count. All the more so as the representation of Wikiprojects outside the big Wikipedias is in urgent need of improvement - the needs of these communities are often significantly different from those of the big ships in the Wikiverse.

I would be very happy to see soon that Gaeilge Wikipedia has also taken the opportunity to have its say. Elections close on Tuesday at 23:59 UTC.

Thank you very much and best regards, DBarthel (WMF) (plé) 10:18, 29 Lúnasa 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Enabling Section Translation: a new mobile translation experience

Hello Irish Wikipedians!

Apologies as this message is not in your language, ⧼Please help translate⧽ to your language.

The WMF Language team is pleased to let you know that we will like to enable the Section translation tool in Irish Wikipedia. For this, our team will love you to read about the tool and test it so you can:

  • Give us your feedback
  • Ask us questions
  • Tell us how to improve it.

Below is background information about Section translation, why we have chosen your community, and how to test it.

Background information

Content Translation has been a successful tool for editors to create content in their language. More than one million articles have been created across all languages since the tool was released in 2015. The Wikimedia Foundation Language team has improved the translation experience further with the Section Translation. The WMF Language team enabled the early version of the tool in February 2021 in Bengali Wikipedia. Through their feedback, the tool was improved and ready for your community to test and provide feedback to make it better.

Section Translation extends the capabilities of Content Translation to support mobile devices. On mobile, the tool will:

  • Guide you to translate one section at a time in order to expand existing articles or create new ones.
  • Make it easy to transfer knowledge across languages anytime from your mobile device.

Irish Wikipedia seems an ideal candidate to enjoy this new tool since it has Content Translation tool enabled by default.

We plan to enable the tool in the coming weeks if there are no objections from your community. After it is enabled, we’ll monitor the content created with the tool and process all the feedback. In any case, feel free to raise any concerns or questions you may already have in any of the following formats:

  • As a reply to this message

Try the tool

Before the enablement, you can try the current implementation of the tool in our testing instance. Once it is enabled on Irish Wikipedia, you’ll have access to https://ga.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:ContentTranslation with your mobile device. You can select an article to translate, and machine translation will be provided as a starting point for editors to improve.

Provide feedback

Please provide feedback about Section translation in any of the formats you are most comfortable with. We want to hear about your impressions on:

  • The tool
  • What you think about our plans to enable it
  • Your ideas for improving the tool.

Thanks, and we look forward to your feedback.

  • - i gcoinne - as it happens, the community here is debating the merits of content translation for non-established editors here, as the current state of machine translation is not of sufficient quality to deploy here, and folks are putting in a lot of effort in cleaning up well-meaning editors who have little to no experience in the language. So - I'd rather this wasn't enabled here at this time. As least not until the machine translation function is not open to all - Alison plé 03:23, 21 Márta 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Alison, for your feedback about the problems your community is having with the automatic machine translation quality. The automatic machine translation support is meant to aid translators in translating efficiently; it is to be reviewed and edited before publishing.
Based on the problem you are having with the quality of translation, we should first try increasing the threshold of the machine translation limit (make the machine translation limit more strict). It means there is a mechanism in content translation that measures the level of modification a user makes to the machine translation provided before it is published. The above encourages translators to review the machine translation more to improve it before publishing.
If increasing the machine translation threshold is something your community would like to try, then you can inform us how strict you want us to make the machine translation limit in percentage (e.g. make the Machine Translation 20% stricter; that is, allow only the publication of translations containing 80% or less of the initial Machine).
To determine the percentage that is ideal for your Wiki, you would have to collect samples (like three or more) of automatic machine translation of articles you want to translate, review it, note the changes you made to improve them in percentage and let us know how strict we need to make the machine translation in your Wiki. Other Wikipedia communities (like the Indonesian Wikipedia) have experienced a reduction in low-quality translation through this approach. So, it can work for you.
In the meantime, we will hold on enabling Content and Section translation in your Wiki to see if your community would like to consider the approach suggested above towards resolving the translation quality issue in your Wiki.
Please let us know your community's decision on the above suggestion. Thank you!

Deir an 'Simple English' Wikipedia an méid seo a leanas ; "Baineann ailt i Vicipéid an Bhéarla Shimplí úsáid as níos lú focal agus gramadach níos éasca ná mar a bhaineann an gnáth English Wikipedia. Tá sé beartaithe do dhaltaí, leanaí agus daoine atá ag foghlaim Béarla, ach úsáideann daoine é freisin a mheasann go gcabhraíonn an ghramadach bhunúsach agus an stór focal bunúsach leo ábhair neamhchoitianta nó smaointe casta a thuiscint ".

B'fhéidir gur cheart dúinn rud éigin cosúil le 'Simple English' a chur ar bun i nGaeilge... 'Gaeilge Shimplí'? Ní gá dúinn a bheith chomh buartha céanna faoin leibhéal líofachta nó cruinnis atá ag rannpháirtithe nua ar an suíomh nua seo? Ériugena (plé) 09:59, 15 Aibreán 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ModernMT a chur i gcomparáid le Google Translate

  • An leagan Béarla;

"He was the one who drew the world's attention to the "archipelago of concentration camps" in the Soviet Union. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1970. He was expelled from his home country for political reasons, four years later. He settled in Vermont in the United States, but when Communism ended in Russia, he returned home."

  • An leagan aistrithe ag ‘ModernMT’

"Ba eisean a tharraing aird an domhain ar "oileánra na gcampaí comhchruinnithe" san Aontas Sóivéadach. Bronnadh Duais Nobel na Litríochta air sa bhliain 1970. Díbríodh as a thír dhúchais é ar chúiseanna polaitiúla, ceithre bliana ina dhiaidh sin. Shocraigh sé síos i Vermont sna Stáit Aontaithe, ach nuair a tháinig deireadh leis an gCumannachas sa Rúis, d'fhill sé abhaile."

  • An leagan aistrithe ag ‘Google Translate’

"Ba é an té a tharraing aird an domhain ar "oileánra na gcampaí comhchruinnithe" san Aontas Sóivéadach. Bronnadh Duais Nobel na Litríochta air i 1970. MinT Machine Translation added to Irish Wikipedia

Hello Irish Wikipedians!

Apologies as this message is not in your language, ⧼Please help translate⧽ to your language.

The WMF Language team has added another machine translation (MT) system for Content Translation in your Wikipedia called MinT; you can use MinT machine translation when translating Wikipedia articles using the Content Translation tool.

The WMF Language team provides the MinT service. It is hosted in the Wikimedia Foundation Infrastructure with neural machine translation models that other organizations have released with an open-source license. MinT integrates translation based on NLLB-200 and OpusMT and will replace those as separate options.  This MT is set as optional in your Wikipedia. Still, you can choose not to use it by selecting "Start with empty paragraph" from the "Initial Translation" dropdown menu.

Since MinT is hosted in the WMF Infrastructure and the models are open source, it adheres to Wikipedia's policies about attribution of rights, your privacy as a user and brand representation. You can find more information about the MinT Machine translation and the models on this page.

Please note that the use of the MinT MT is not compulsory. However, we would want your community to:

  • use it to improve the quality of the Machine Translation service
  • provide feedback about the service and its quality, and ask questions about this addition.

We trust that introducing this MT is a good support to the Content Translation tool.

Thank you!

Celtic Knot Meán Fómhair 2024 i bPort Láirge

Dia Duit!

We are very happy to announce that the Celtic Knot Conference will be back for its 7th edition in the new year! We are delighted that it will be hosted in Waterford City, Ireland, in September 2024. The exact date will be announced as soon as possible.

The Celtic Knot is a conference dedicated to minoritized languages on the Wikimedia projects, including Irish. Getting back to its roots, in the Celtic languages and nations, the event gathers people from communities and languages that are underrepresented on the Wikimedia projects. It is a place where people working on growing and maintaining their communities can meet, learn from each other, and support each other on topics like community growth, technical tools, or collaboration with partners.

Celtic Knot 2024, will be an in-person event, held in Waterford, Ireland's oldest city which has an abundance of cultural heritage and history. We are currently exploring options to make conference resources (talks, panels, etc.) available to those who are unable to attend in person.

We are currently gathering input from the community to build a conference tailored to your needs: whether you attended a previous edition of the Celtic Knot or not, if you are involved in underrepresented languages on the Wikimedia Projects, please take a few minutes to fill in the community survey, and make sure to share the information with your local group. The survey is open until January 21st. Many thanks in advance!

As we are starting to build the concept and the program, we will regularly improve the existing event pages on Meta and post updates on the talk page of the event.

The core organizing team is composed of Amy O’Riordan (WCI), Sophie Fitzpatrick (WCI), Daria Cybulska (WMUK), Richard Nevell (WMUK), supported by Léa Lacroix (community engagement consultant). If you have ideas or suggestions, if you would like to get involved in the conference, feel free to contact any of us.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the Celtic Knot!

Le dea-ghuí,

Sophie Fitzpatrick (Wikimedia Community Ireland) Cailínréalta (plé) 12:04, 15 Nollaig 2023 (UTC)[reply]
