DescriptionArriva Trains Wales DVT at Cardiff Central by Jeremy Segrott.jpg
The empty stock for the 1W96 Cardiff Central - Holyhead service arrives at Central station from Canton depot. The DVT (Driving Van Trailer) is leading the train on this occasion, with 67002 providing power at the rear. The train locomotive is normally at the front of the train from Cardiff. When the locomotive-hauled service from Holyhead to Cardiff (and return) was originally introduced it was routed via Crewe, rather than the the normal route for South Wales-North Wales services via Wrexham, with a reversal at Chester. Subsequent introduction of the DVT enabled the reversal at Chester to be undertaken without the need for the loco to run round the train, or for two locomotives to be provided.
