2028 United States Senate election in Ohio
The 2028 United States Senate election in Ohio will be held on November 7, 2028, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the state of Ohio .
Incumbent one-term Republican Senator JD Vance was first elected in 2022 . He was later nominated for vice president of the United States in the 2024 presidential election by Donald Trump , ultimately winning the vice presidency and the Senate presidency. Vance will vacate his seat on or before January 20, 2025 , and governor Mike DeWine will appoint an interim successor until a special election is held in 2026 .
The last time Democrats held this seat was in 1999, when Senator John Glenn retired and was succeeded by George Voinovich .
