Potential examples
Can one species be a subset of another, if you change the time scale?
For example, can O_2 (with any electronic state) be considered a single species that breaks into more specific species if you shorten the time scale (singlet versus triplet)?
Or more simply, is an element a species, which then breaks into subspecies according to ionization?
Listing a number of such examples would be helpful in understanding that "species" is a more subtle and general concept than just atom, molecule, ion, or radical. 89.217.9.188 (talk) 00:37, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

I am planning on improving the stub through these areas:
I will first begin with fixing the structure of the Wikipedia page. I will add a subheadings namely “classification” and place it with the information about supramolecular chemistry and molecular energy. Then I will add another subheading called “types of chemical species” and include the part of the examples of chemical species in it. I will also add some more information that details each type of chemical species.
Next, I will include citations for the claims that are not referenced with a reliable citation , that includes the information about supramolecular chemistry, molecular energy, and DNA. I will make sure the citations came from a wide variety of reliable and credible sources and include at least one primary source.
Finally, I will include images for the introduction and each subheadings. For the introduction I will include a chart that outlines all the different types of chemical species, including atoms, ions, molecules and molecular ions. For the subheading “types of chemical species” I will add a few image of the real life examples of chemical species. This includes a picture of salt to demonstrate ionic species, and argon to demonstrate an atomic species.
