05/05/2011 - Laboratory Information System (LIS) for Selected Public Health Laboratories in Guyana

The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) is managing this project through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Global AIDS Program (GAP) in support of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Accelrys, Inc., a leading scientific enterprise R&D software and services company, today announced that its subsidiary, Accelrys Software Inc., has acquired privately-held Contur Software AB. 05/18/2011 - France’s National Reference Laboratory for Food Residues and Contaminants to Employ ACD/Labs MS Products

Advanced Chemistry Development, Inc., (ACD/Labs) announced today that the Laboratoire d’Etude des Résidus et Contaminants dans les Aliments (LABERCA)—the National Reference Laboratory of France’s General Directorate for Food (DGAL)—for the control of banned growth promoters in cattle (including anabolic steroids) and some environmental chemical contaminants in foodstuffs of animal origin (including dioxins, PCBs, or PAH), will be implementing ACD/MS Manager and ACD/IntelliTarget across the organization.

06/22/2011 - Global Web Symposium - Small Molecule or Biomolecular Drugs (Biologics) –What’s the Difference?

Biomolecular drugs (Biologics – therapeutic proteins and Mabs) have leveled the playing field – a) about as many new biologics being approved each year as new small molecule drugs (NMEs); b) all the big Pharma now have the capacity to develop both types of drugs (note the recent buy-out of Genzyme by Sanofi-Aventis), c) those that had biologics capacity are increasing it., d) the larger biotech companies are developing the capacity to develop small molecules, and e) now with many blockbuster biologics nearing patent expiration biosimilars are on the way. It’s no longer - choose which type – you will need to know how to discover and develop either type of drug. This is a crash course on the differences and similarities between small molecule and biomolecular drugs for everyone who needs to know.
